52 year old Anthony Peter Mwangi, was released from prison After serving two years of a three year sentence handed him in 2009 for alleged destruction of private property. Mwangi was among the close to 7000 prisoners pardoned by president Mwai Kibaki
Heavy floods hit Narok
For the second day running heavy rains have pounded Narok causing flooding in the town. A ten-year-old boy who was going home from school died after he was swept away by the floods.
UN chief snubs defferal campaign
With less than a week to the appearance of six suspected post election violence perpetrators in the international criminal court in the Hague the government is in a spin in its efforts to stop the Hague trials. The government has filed a case in The Hague seeking to stop the ICC from handling the two Kenyan cases. Two British lawyers filed the application. This came as the government's deferral bid suffered a set back with visiting UN secretary general Ban Ki moon saying he has no influence whatsoever over the security council.
Political bickering threatening business confidence
The level of investment in Kenya may be decreasing owing to increased insecurity and heightened political bickering in the country. The business community has raised its concerns that these factors are making Kenya unfavourable for investment. Speaking at the 7th Prime Minister's Roundtable, Prime Minister Raila Odinga dismissed the fears as he sought to affirm the government's commitment in ensuring investor confidence.
Police on defense over heroin weight
The police is now expressing frustration in its efforts to nail drug barons, citing intimidation, bribery and threats of dismissal. Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere says powerful drug barons are hitting back as police intensify the war against narcotics trafficking. The claims come in the wake of allegations that police had not declared the actual weight of heroin seized during a sting operation in Mombasa.
